Is your child myopic and no longer wants to wear glasses?
Wake up in the morning and see clearly without optical aids – with orthokeratology this is possible.

Orthokeratology corrects the visual defect at night so that you can see clearly during the day without optical aids.

Adolescents are significantly more affected by myopia than adults. Early and comprehensive treatment is recommended so that adolescents can develop freely. To correct myopia, it is necessary to wear glasses or contact lenses. Unfortunately, laser eye treatment is only possible in adulthood from the age of about 20.

Causes of myopia in children and adolescents

Genetics plays a big role in the development of myopia:

  • If only one parent is myopic, there is a 1:3 chance that the child will become myopic.
  • If both parents are myopic, there is a 50:50 chance that the child will also become myopic.

In addition, myopia develops more quickly under certain circumstances, such as excessive use of near vision (by smartphone, tablet, etc.), prolonged focusing in poor lighting, too little outdoor activity, etc.

Environmental factors play a big role in the development of myopia. Therefore, in addition to vision correction (e.g. glasses, contact lenses), it is important to encourage outdoor activities in natural light to prevent eye strain and thus the occurrence of vision problems.

Three levels of myopia can be distinguished:

Level 1
Low myopia, between -1.00 and -3.00 diopters

Level 2
Moderate myopia, between -3.00 and -6.00 diopters

Level 3
Severe myopia, above -6.00 diopters

What is orthokeratology?

Orthokeratology is a method that has been tried and tested for over 20 years, in which the visual defect is completely corrected by wearing night lenses during the day – a visual aid is not necessary during the day.

So while your child sleeps, the Ortho-K lenses exert precisely calculated, gentle pressure on the eyes, remodelling the top layer of the cornea (i.e. the front surface of the eyes).

As soon as your child wakes up, he or she can enjoy all his or her activities throughout the day, without the hassle of glasses or contact lenses.

These night lenses are specially made to measure and are made of a material that respects the physiology of the eye and allows a high oxygen supply during sleep. In addition, the two integrated tear reservoirs grant the wearer a high level of comfort during the night.

These personalised and customised Ortho-K lenses optimise the treatment of progressive myopia. Thanks to the special and individual lens design, night lens wearers can see clearly throughout the day and the risk of infection, which exists with wearers of daily lenses, is significantly reduced. All problems with broken or lost glasses or daily contact lenses are eliminated because children/young people only handle their Ortho-K night lenses at home, under the control and supervision of their parents.

In addition to the fact that your child can do without visual aids, these Ortho-K lenses offer a high level of living comfort and an excellent quality of vision. This also applies to all preferred sporting activities, which also gives parents peace of mind.

For whom are Ortho-K lenses suitable?

  • When there is a desire to slow down and correct progressive myopia.
  • If there is a desire to engage in activities without restrictions (e.g. water sports, dancing, playing football, etc.)
  • For children/adolescents from 9 years of age under parental supervision.

For whom are Ortho-K lenses not suitable?

  • If eye diseases are present (e.g. infections, herpes, etc.).
  • If there is a corneal irregularity (e.g. keratoconus, dystrophy, etc.)
  • In the presence of a lacrimal flow disorder
  • Children or adolescents with poor hygiene (risk of infection)
  • In case of strong allergies
  • If the pupil is too large (> 6mm )
  • If a young person sleeps less than 6 hours on average or has very irregular sleep in general.
